Avert democracy's doom

In Paul Krugman's recent column (March 27), I was dismayed to read how many laws are being foisted on an unsuspecting public by ALEC, "a corporate-backed organization that has managed to keep a low profile even as it exerts vast influence."

We need to enact legislation to require disclosure of who is paying for political ads. As Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia recently wrote: "Requiring people to stand up in public for their political acts fosters civic courage, without which democracy is doomed."

So let's pass AB 1648, the California DISCLOSE Act, to require political ads to reveal who really pays for them.

Please join us at our next meeting April 12. (Details are available at www.YesFairElections.org.) Help us persuade our local Assemblyman Katcho Achadjian to support this needed law.
